Build Strength Program - Build Strength...Feel Power

How does strength and power compliment each other?

Strength is the ability to exert force at a specified speed, and with increasing that force it’s contributing to increasing ones power.

Three great Olympic – styled exercises for development of an athlete’s power and strength are:

  1. Front Squats
  2. Hang Cleans
  3. Power Cleans

Olympic weight lifting offers athletes a positive contribution to the performance of their chosen sport.

Front squats, Hang Cleans and power cleans are incorporated in many strength and conditioning programs for sports such as basketball, rugby, athletics, sprint cycling only mentioning a few.

A specific training program utilising these exercises will increase an athletes power and speed as they are functional strength and explosive movements developing an all round mobility in an athlete.

Olympic lifts equal a total body work out of high power out put and high rates of force production which in turn transfers to the increase of speed and explosiveness as well as the development of power, strength, dynamic flexibility, core stability and last but not least neuromuscular coordination.

Front Squats

A great exercise for developing strength of the Quads and Hip Flexors.

Hang Clean

This exercise focus more on the development of the athletes’ upper body power with less emphasis on the lower body than the power cleans. The Hang Clean is also used in skill development of the Power Clean.

Power Cleans

Power cleans develop all round body power.

Work through the various training stages to assist with performance optimisation.
